During Tuesday evening’s Spring Hill Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) meeting, the proposition of authorizing the Mayor and City Attorney to sign an agreement to widen highway 31 (U.S. 31) was passed by a unanimous 9-0 vote.

The project will widen U.S. 31 (Main Street) to 5 lanes from Buckner Road to Johnson Parkway, accommodating traffic flow in the area.

Widening Main Street will allow smoother traffic for an area that is continuing to see new business and neighborhood projects. The two-lane road currently cannot accommodate the number of people in the area.

As more and more people move into Spring Hill, widening highway 31 is a much anticipated project for Spring Hill. U.S. 31 is one of the most populated areas of the city with shopping, businesses, and entrances to neighborhoods that suffer traffic congestion during rush hours.

An environmental impact study is required for the project before construction can begin. With multiple road projects currently at works in the area, Spring Hill citizens can expect the widening of 31 to be completed in a few years.
