Upcoming WCPR Fall Activities

The Williamson County Parks and Rec Department (WCPR) has several exciting things coming up!

Free Concert
WCPR is hosting a free outdoor band concert by the Williamson County Community Band on Sunday, September 7 at 5:00 p.m. on the lawn behind the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.  Enjoy an afternoon of music including popular movie themes, patriotic marches, jazz and more. The band is directed by Ken Krause and is made up of volunteer musicians from the Williamson County area. There is no charge for this family event.  Bring along lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Picnics and coolers are welcome, but no pets or alcoholic beverages are permitted.

Auditions for “Rapunzel”
Montana-based Missoula Children’s Theater returns to Franklin on Monday, September 8, 2014 as WCPR presents auditions for a new Missoula-directed local production of “Rapunzel.” The Missoula experience is a venue for children to discover their stage presence and acting ability, and offers entry level roles for youth ages 5 to 18.  Professional theatre staffers from Missoula Children’s Theater conduct auditions, rehearsals and performances all in one week.  There are acting roles for students of all ages, (grades 1-12), and approximately 50 to 60 local children will be cast.

Fall Dance & Hayride
WCPR will offer a fall dance and hayride as part of the therapeutic recreation program at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road.  Celebrate the beginning of the fall season with an outdoor evening which includes a hayride, dancing and a barbecue dinner on Thursday, September 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This program is for young adults and older, and the cost is $9. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held indoors. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support.  Caregivers wishing to eat are  asked to register and pay the $9 program fee.  Registration is required before September 16.

Therapeutic programs are led by Therapeutic Recreation Specialists who assist people with disabilities to develop skills and knowledge for daily living and community involvement.  Call the Franklin Recreation Complex, (615) 790-5719, ext. 2010 to register.  For more information regarding therapeutics programs, contact Jayne McFadden at (615) 790-5719, ext. 2033.
