During April, National Autism Awareness Month, Jack Yacoubian Jewelers celebrates and honors the artistic creations of artists with autism. Many individuals with autism spectrum disorder are gifted in the arts. Three of the featured artists, two visual, and one a performing musician, are young adults who have successfully honed their craft throughout their school years. Each has aged out or will shortly age out of their school services into the adult work world, seeking forms of employment and varying degrees of independence, including housing.  ting-grass-Preston Vienneau

Being an artist and also growing up is challenging in our culture, let alone when an artist is navigating these life hurdles with a disability that affects communication, behavior, and social interactions.

Yet, art bridges the world of disability through its beauty and ability to communicate from the heart of the artist and to the eyes and heart of the viewer. Art is a universal language.

As we get closer to the April Art Scene, we want to feature each of the artists who will be part of the installation at Jack Yacoubian Jewelers.

Our first artist is Preston Vienneau ,a native Nashvillian and a young adult with high-functioning autism. He is a self-taught artist and uses art as a means of self-expression. His works have been featured at the Tennessee Art League, Shimai Gallery of Contemporary Craft, located on the grounds of the Loveless Cafe, Vanderbilt Kennedy Center and the Marnie Sheridan Gallery at Harpeth Hall School.  He has work as part of The ArtAble Collection in a Green Hills luxury apartment building.
*Preston is on the waiting list for an Nashville IDD friendship supportive housing community.

A portion of the store’s exhibition commission will benefit the Nashville IDD Housing Group, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that helps prepare persons with an intellectual and/or developmental disability (IDD) to live independently within a supportive community.
