United Way partners with Publix for a hands- on effort in Fairview

To kick off the company’s United Way of Williamson County   fundraising campaign, 50 Publix managers were  out in the community in force on Thursday, August 7, to volunteer at various locations in Fairview.  Here are the projects they completed.

Waves, Inc.

Fourteen Publix volunteers  met at the Fairview  Recereation  Center.  The group divided the duties as   several  stayed to buff the floors at the Waves Day Center for adults. Several others went to the Waves’ group home where they repaired ramps and pressure washing.  Waves was founded in 1973 in Fairview but serves the entire community of Willimason County.  Geared toward those individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

GraceWorks West

Helping Hands is a clothing and food bank that opened in 2008 .  Demands became too much for the volunteers and as of July 1, 2014 they merged with Graceworks making this Graceworks second location to be called Graceworks West.  The ten volunteers from Publix helped with the daily operations as the the new location continues to grow. Their primary duties included sorting donations for the food pantry and the thrift store.

Bowie Nature Park

Bowie Nature Park is a 700 plus acres of forest, lakes, and trails making it a great place for families to enjoy.  Some of the activities families can enjoy include: bicycling, horseback riding, fishing, playing on the Treehouse playground and enjoying the Nature Center with outdoor classrooms.    There were plenty o f  Publix employees on hand to  clean the outdoor classroom, shelters, playground and complete various other beautification projects.

In addition to these hands-on efforts, local Publix stores started their school supply collection drive on
Friday, July 25, and it runs through August 13. Please donate at the register at Publix for United Way of
Williamson County’s Stuff the Bus effort.
