If the Fairview Yellowjackets had any nervousness putting their undefeated record on the line in the Class 3A first round, it didn’t show.
The Region 6-3A top-seeded Yellowjackets (11-0) flew by the Region 5-4A fourth-seeded East Nashville Eagles 48-24.
It was the running game that fueled Fairview’s offense. Senior running back Jake Beathard led the way with 23 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown, while Josh Ortiz added 71 yards and three touchdowns on 13 rushes. Hunter Caldwell also added a score and 46 yards on the ground.
The Yellowjackets got out to a 27-0 lead in the third quarter and left the rest to their defense. They were particularly good against East Nashville’s rushing attack. The Eagles (4-7) gained just 15 yards on 12 attempts.
With the win, Fairview and its 11-game winning streak welcome the Region 5-3A second seed Goodpasture (9-2) to FHS in the second round Friday.
The Cougars have two losses this season by a combined eight points. They advanced with a 36-20 victory over Harpeth on Friday.
