Truth About Home Remedies for Lice

Lice Place

Last week, we talked about the affect of cold weather on lice and some commonly found myths- are they true, kinda true or just blatantly wrong.

With the warm weather, hopefully coming back for good, kids will be out playing more and the risk for transmission of lice will be higher. If you think your child has lice, there are some very important things NOT to do that the internet and TV shows might say otherwise.

Thanks to the Lice Place in Cool Springs for providing the information for this post.

At Home Treatments . . .

licemeter

Vinegar FALSE

Mayonnaise FALSE

Cetaphil FALSE

Listerine FALSE

Vaseline FALSE

Olive Oil FALSE

LIGHTER FLUID / KEROSINE – ABSOLUTELY FALSE – DO NOT DO THIS – VERY, VERY DANGEROUS!

These are all attempts to “smother” the lice, and often involve days or weeks of wearing these concoctions on your head. Totally unnecessary and largely ineffective. Physical removal only.

For extreme cases, there are some prescription treatments that might be necessary and effective. Overwhelmingly, lice can be irradicated by simple physical removal by a professional.

So if you think you or your kid has lice, for consultation, treatment or further information call the Lice Place.
