Trending Now: CPA Students Sing to Teacher Diagnosed With Cancer

Ben Ellis

Music is a powerful thing, it can encourage and lift us up in times of need. A local high school teacher needed encouragement and the student body of Christ Presbyterian Academy gave their beloved teacher just that.

Last Wednesday, the CPA student body of 400 students descended upon Ben Ellis’s home to sing for him.

Ellis was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in December and requires a cannula for oxygen. On his Caring Bridge page, he revealed that he will no longer continue treatments, as the cancer has spread to his lungs. Hospice nurses have been consulted for the next steps of treatment.

On Saturday, Tim McGraw shared the video of the student body singing “Holy Spirit You are Welcome Here” and so far it has been shared over 14 million times.

McGraw says on his Facebook page,“A friend sent this to me today. Ben Ellis is a Nashville area high school teacher battling cancer. The entire student body (400+ students plus HS faculty) drove to his house to worship with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family…So precious and kind.”
