Franklin Mayor, Dr. Ken Moore gave his annual State of the City presentation Wednesday, May 15 to a crowd of close to 400 people at Rolling Hills Community Church. The theme was Investing in Franklin’s Future. Below are the top three things to know about the event.
1.Projects on the Horizon: (Top projects identified in the capital investment process by the Mayor and not yet funded)
- Long Lane
- Bicentennial Park
- Downtown Parking Lot and Garage
- Bridge Across Harpeth from Chestnut Bend to Harlinsdale
- New City Hall
- Restoration of Harlinsdale barn
2.Preview of Citizen Survey:
- Almost all residents rated the quality of life in Franklin as excellent or good – 97% combined- 3rd in the nation for quality of life.
- Residents identified economy, mobility and safety as priorities for the Franklin community in the coming two years.
- That 99% of residents rate Franklin as excellent/good as a place to live.
- 93% of residents rate the overall quality of city services as excellent/good.- Franklin ranks 11th in the nation for overall confidence in city government and 6th in services provided.
- 80% rated their satisfaction of the city’s management of growth as either very or somewhat satisfied
- 97% rated Franklin as an excellent or good place to raise children—2nd in the nation
- 96% rated Franklin as excellent or good in terms of overall image and reputation—1st in nation.
3.Release of new Blue Bin Mascot:
Bin Franklin will be the new mascot for blue bin recycling in Franklin. Buddy Blue Bag, the current mascot was given a gold watch and a retirement ceremony at the State of the City. Blue bin recycling will begin in January 2020, sign-ups to opt-in to the program will begin this summer!
