While you won’t find his music played on mainstream country music stations, this artist continues to sell out venues across the country. Â Isbell recently made headlines when Sturgill Simpson was upset over the ACM honors recognizing Merle Haggard, an outsider of country music. Simpson named Isbell as an artist like himself that the industry has overlooked. Â However, Isbell received three nominations for the Americana Awards that will be held just before Pilgrimage Festival in Nashville. His latest album Something More than Free was released in July 2015. As soon as it was released it was number one on the Country, Folk and Rock charts.
