TN Titans Owner Bud Adams Passes Away

The Houston Chronicle has reported that Bud Adams, owner of the Tennessee Titans, died this morning. Adams was 90-years-old.

K.S. “Bud” Adams dedicated his life to sports and especially football. Hailing from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Adams showed an affinity for sports at Culver Military Academy and later at Menlo College in California.

Among many of his attributes is the inception of the American Football League (AFL) over 50 years ago with Lamar Hunt. Adams obtained 406 wins, more than any other NFL owner.

Adams’ Houston Oilers won the first two AFL titles in 1960 and 1961. I n 1962, they lost to Hunt’s Dallas Texans. In the ’90s, Adams was unable to get support in Houston for a city-funded stadium, so he approached Nashville Mayor Phil Bredeson. The Oilers left Houston after the 1997 season and became the Tennessee Titans, advancing to Super Bowl XXXIV in January 2000.

Sources report that Adams’ death was of natural causes. Adams is survived by two daughters, Susie Smith and Amy Strunk and seven grandchildren.

Adams’ legacy and love for football will live on forever and our thoughts and prayers are with The Adams family and the entire Titans family.
