The Tennessee Titans (2-5) are looking forward to reaching their bye week with a victory on Sunday, October 26 against the Houston Texans (3-4). Kickoff is scheduled for noon CDT at LP Field.
Last Sunday was another rough one for the Titans. After scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter, the Titans defense allowed Washington and third-string quarterback Colt McCoy to go down the field, use up the final five minutes of regulation and set them up for a 22-yard field goal, which won the game for the Redskins 19-17.
They face a Houston team that hasn’t had much time to rest. They were sloppy and mistake-prone in their Monday Night Football loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-23. Tennessee will have a long day if they allow Texans’ defensive end J.J. Watt to do whatever he wants. So far this season, Watt has been everywhere, and likely leads the conversation for early MVP consideration. Through seven weeks, he has five sacks and one interception return for a touchdown.
Sunday will also see the start of rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger for Tennessee. It was rumored throughout the week and finally reported on Wednesday that Mettenberger will get the job over Locker and Whitehurst. Locker is still nursing that injured right thumb, and Whitehurst as been subpar at best.
Keep on eye on this one, because even if the Titans do struggle and lose, but Mettenberger had a decent game, this could mean the end of the Jake Locker experiment. I honestly don’t see the Titans giving the controls back to someone who has been constantly plagued by injuries. The Titans want to start winning now, and if Mettenberger does well…this could be a turning point the Titans need.
Sunday’s game will be televised regionally on FOX, including Nashville affiliate WZTV FOX 17. On the radio, tune into The Titans Radio Network 104.5 The Zone.
