The Tennessee Titans (1-4) face another home stand, and continue to search for their first win at LP Field on Sunday, October 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-5). Kickoff is scheduled for noon CDT.
The Titans tasted victory last Sunday after they built a 28-3 lead over the visiting Cleveland Browns. Jake Locker got Tennessee on the board a couple times before reinjuring his right hand in the first half. By halftime, fans were ready to chalk up a “W” in the books, but the Browns effectively shut down the Titans for the remaining two halves and escaped with a 29-28 victory. Their 26-unanswered points was the biggest road upset in the history of the Titans, and as division rivals Jacksonville are still without a win in Week 6, the Titans shouldn’t take anyone lightly.
Last week the Jaguars hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers and were handed their fifth straight loss with a final score of 17-9. Jacksonville has hopes that their rookie Blake Bortles will lead them into glory, but that rebuilding process will take no doubt a couple years down the road. If the Titans aren’t able to hold a 28-3 on the Browns and still find a way to lose, the Jaguars should feel the same way and believe they can win on the road.
Tennessee will most likely be without Locker again with the right thumb injury, putting Charlie Whitehurst back in the starting rotation. He’s been able to make correct passes and get the Titans on the board, but the receivers need to do a way better job at getting open and catching open passes. The special teams and defense will hopefully not skid again for the third straight week. There might already be trouble brewing within the organization after last Sunday, and I can’t imagine what might happen if Tennessee falls to Jacksonville.
Sunday’s game will be televised regionally on CBS, including Nashville affiliate WTVF NewsChannel 5. On the radio, tune into The Titans Radio Network 104.5 The Zone.
