Titans Offense M.I.A. in 26-10 loss to Cowboys

The team that looked sharp and created some excitement in Kansas City was not the same team that opened LP Field’s gates for the 2014 season.

Tennessee (1-1) were more than just mediocre, they stunk. Not on one side of the ball. Both on offense and defense. The Dallas Cowboys (1-1), themselves embarrassed last week against the 49ers, looked far superior, even after losing a fumble on their opening possession, en route to a 26-10 win. Where do we start the finger pointing?

Most of it today will be on Titans quarterback Jake Locker. The fourth year starter struggled mightily all afternoon: he (over) threw 18/34 passes for 234 yards with just one touchdown and two interceptions. He looked puzzled, lost and misread his receivers numerous times, ending up to quick 3-and-outs for Tennessee. The first quarter itself only saw the offense on the field for three drives.

Dallas pretty much bullied Tennessee, going up 16-0 at the half and never looked back. DeMarco Murray ran for 167 yards on 29 carries for one touchdown. Tony Romo redeemed himself by completing 19/29 passes for 167 yards for one touchdown and most importantly, no interceptions. Dallas had over 40 minutes of possession compared to just 18 minutes by the Titans.

One small bright spot for the Titans was Delanie Walker who got Tennessee on the board for the only time in the second half. He ran for 142 yards and the lone touchdown was a 61-yard catch from Locker.

It was over when Cowboy fans that piled into LP Field began a very loud and clear “Let’s Go Cowboys” chant with four minutes remaining in the fourth. With the final possession, a penalty on Tennessee issued a 10-second runoff, which seemed appropriate for the day.

The Titans will begin a two-game road-trip next Sunday, Sept. 21 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
