Local Photographer Finds Beauty in Everyday Life

Since he moved to Franklin almost three years ago, photographer Tim Ditzler has been making a name for himself as an up and comer.

This fall he is releasing a book, a collection of photographs that are a study of the beauty and a little bit of the sadness of everyday life.

Sharp contrasts highlight his photos, in both black and white and color, and their subjects.

He catches people as they go about their everyday lives in much of his work, and also catches still shots of the area. A recent photo he sold caught Main Street in black and white during the snow this past winter, empty of cars and people.

“I am most interested in capturing people and places,” he said. “You can really catch their true selves in moments when they are in public but don’t think anyone is paying attention to them. It makes for really great shots.”

He draws inspiration from every day life, but also sets up some shots, depending on the subject.

To pay the bills he shoots weddings and senior pictures and does some work for various downtown businesses and their websites. His shots are on display at the downtown art crawl on the first Friday of every month in Franklin. He is currently working on a daily video blog to build anticipation for his book of photos, due out in the fall.

But he hopes to open a gallery in time to showcase and sell his work.

For now he operates out of his home on Fourth Avenue, developing photos in a home studio. Recently, he has been shooting time lapse video for a year round look at Franklin for VisitFranklin.com.TImothyMakeUps

He runs most of his business through word of mouth, and his contact information and more examples of his work can be found on his Facebook page.

Before coming to Tennessee, Ditzler was a musician, touring as a drummer with various bands. He was always taking pictures for promotion and the interest became an occupation upon his move south.

Ditzler works with local musicians and movie makers. He has shot music videos and album covers for various Williamson County bands, looking to make a name for themselves and has been hired to help aspiring local movie makers produce short films.

Here are some samples of his work:
