Three Candidates Left in Nashville Superintendent Search

One school administrator has been dropped from the list of candidates on Metro Nashville Public Schools’ search for a new Nashville superintendent.

Mike Looney, superintendent of Williamson County Schools, is still on the list and will be interviewed by MNPS next week.

Looney began serving WCS in 2009, and has previously had his superintendent contract extended by the WCS board. The Williamson County School Board has been considering extending Looney’s current contract again, which right now would end in January 2017.

John Covington was the candidate dropped from the list.

List of Candidates for MNPS Superintendent of Schools:

Candidate #1: John Covington, consultant for Broad Foundation

Candidate #2: Angela Huff, chief of staff Cobb County, Ga.

Candidate #3: Michael Looney, Superintendent of Williamson County Schools

Candidate # 4: Barry Shepherd, retired superintendent of Cabarrus County Schools

MNPS will begin conducting the next round of interviews with the remaining three candidates on Monday.  The top candidates for the position will be chosen by July 16 and voted on July 23.
