‘The Secret Handshake’ Showing at Franklin Theatre

We were invited to  the premiere of ‘The Secret Handshake’ which took place at Allen Arena at Lipscomb University on Wednesday, May 27th.

Over 1500 people came out to watch the debut of ‘The Secret Handshake,’ which is a grassroots project by Howie Klausner to bring film projects to Nashville and especially to Franklin.

And when we say Klausner wanted this film to be made in his own backyard, we mean it was literally made in his own backyard in Cottonwood.  Actually, Klausner features his own home and his three daughters were cast in the film.  Klausner told us that he made the film in 13 days.  He attributed his success in completing his film in a timely manner to being the director as well as writer stating, “I knew how I wanted things to look and sound, there was no second guessing.”  Also, Klausner gives credit to his wife, “I think I drove her crazy by using our home but she was so very helpful throughout this whole process.”

  The Secret Handshake Movie Cast

We spoke to Kevin Sorbo  who plays Roy Roper, the dad of the daughter who receives some unwanted attention from a boy, a boy that has taken his quest for his daughter a little too far.  Sorbo who is also a father of three says, “I can see my own son going through some of the same things as the boy in this movie.”

Throughout the movie, Sorbo narrates rites of passages of boys from other parts of the world. His narration is accompanied by cartoonish characters much like that of ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid.’

This is definitely  a movie for the entire family, one thatwill have you laughing because it is so relatable and crying because it also mimics real life.  It is a journey that every boy will take into manhood whether he is ready for it or not.  However, the journey that these characters take in this movie is one of lasting memories, friendships, and finding out they really can count on each other in the end.

‘The Secret Handshake’ is playing at the Franklin Theatre on Sunday, May 31st with three show times: 1pm, 4pm, and 7pm. Tickets are available to purchase  online. ‘The Secret Handshake’  will also be available on DVD exclusively at Wal-Mart beginning on June 2, 2015.
