The Joy of Food: Mac’s Grub Shak

Burger at Fries at Mac's Grub Shak, Spring Hill

by Serenity Joy Miller- Foodie

I visited Mac’s Grub Shak on Saturday, and I did not know what to expect. I’d never been there before or heard anything about it other than what I read online, which was pretty positive. I do love a great burger, so I was excited to try out this recently remodeled restaurant.

Decor at Mac's Grub Shak, Spring Hill TNMac’s offers a cool, Americana vibe with local and vintage restaurant memorabilia decorating the walls. The décor includes a large, silver Nashville sign; album covers and records; tin and neon beer logos; road signs; a Tennessee Titans helmet and jersey; and a charming, wooden sign reading “KEEP CALM and GET YOUR GRUB ON.” The restaurant was clean, and the servers were friendly and efficient. When asked about the food, they were engaging and quick to provide answers about the products they served.

Most of the time, I eat my food review meals alone, but I was happy that my friend Mary-Gardner could meet me for lunch. She has some food allergies, but Mac’s was able to provide her with a delicious bun-less Tequila Sunrise Burger and baked sweet potato fries. The baked fries tasted fresh and earthy, and they retained the creamy, fleshy texture of sweet potatoes.

Burger at Mac's Grub Shak, Spring Hill TNMac’s Grub Shak uses local, all natural, Black Angus beef with no added hormones, antibiotics, or fillers, which is always a plus in my opinion. After perusing the menu for several minutes trying to decide which of the 14 burgers to try, I finally settled on the Pimiento Cheeseburger with seasoned fries. And I was not disappointed. The juicy burger was well cooked and tasted of savory, unadulterated, healthy beef. The thick, creamy pimiento cheese continued to melt on the burger even after they brought it to the table. The tasty bacon, crisp lettuce, and juicy, ripe tomato provided the ideal toppings for the sandwich, and the bun was perfectly toasted with crispy edges and a soft center. The fries came out hot, crispy on the outside, and well seasoned with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic, onion, and chili powders. What a delightful meal!

Based on this wonderful experience, I will definitely return to Mac’s to try the Maker’s Mark, Tequila Sunrise, and Southern Comfort Burgers, as well as their tantalizing specialty pizzas. Mac’s Grub Shak can be found at 4910 Main Street, Suite 110 in Spring Hill. It is located along Highway 31 behind McDonald’s in the same center as The People’s Church.
