70 Williamson County Nonprofits Participate in The Big Payback

The countdown is on for Middle Tennessee’s largest online giving day, The Big Payback! Last year, more than 14,435 donors came together in a big way to “pay back” the nonprofits raising more than $2.65 million for the community in 24 hours.

The Big Payback is a community-wide, 24 hour online giving challenge hosted by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. This charitable event helps area nonprofits raise much-needed dollars and bring awareness to pressing needs in our communities.

For 24 hours, from midnight to 11:59 p.m. CST on May 3, 2016, donors can make gifts to participating nonprofits, schools, and religious institutions located in or providing services in the 40 counties of Middle Tennessee.

770 public charities, schools and religious institutions signed up to participate, 70 of them are located in Williamson County.

African LeadershipAfrican Leadership
African Leadership invests in Africa’s servant leaders so that every African can discover common ground with the Gospel. We seek to make broken better, and do that by focusing on parts of the world where trauma and poverty are intertwined. Our network of care-givers and leaders across Africa build three things that can’t be taken away: • Resilience, because unaddressed trauma paralyzes and distances the survivors • Resourcefulness, because they teach churches and leaders in a neighborhood how their own skills and local assets can get them started on the road out of poverty, and • Respect for the “other” (tribe, orphan, widow), equipping pastors to live and teach the full message of the Bible – that we are all made in God’s image and are to love Him and our neighbor. Resilience. Resourcefulness. Respect: rungs to human flourishing, a way to make broken better.

both handsBoth Hands
Both Hands is a different kind of adoption fundraiser. An adoptive family recruits a team of volunteers and Both Hands coaches them to coordinate a service project fixing up a widow’s home. Similar to a 5k race or golf charity event, the volunteer team sends letters to raise sponsorship for their day of service. However, instead of running or golfing, the team serves a widow in their community. Committed to raising its own support separately, no funds are deducted for Both Hands’ operating costs. All of the funds received help an orphan be adopted into a forever family, a widow is provided with free labor and all of the volunteers serve their community. Both Hands – One for the Widow, One for the Orphan. Since starting in 2008, Both Hands has completed over 550 projects across 42 states, brought over 600 orphans closer to home, served over 600 widows and enabled over 16,000 volunteers to impact their community. With raising a total of over $6 million for adoptions and orphan causes, Both Hands has been heralded as one of the leading adoption fundraisers.
