The Spring Hill High School Raiders have a rich history of developing exciting players and achieving a fair amount of postseason success.

Spring Hill boasts a 17-16 playoff record in 32 appearances, with their last coming in 2014. The Raiders best season came in 1986 when they defeated South Pittsburgh 21-20 for the Division I-A State Championship.

That team was led by back-to–back Tennessee Mr. Football Award winner Orlando Wade. Wade amassed a total of 7,759 yards of total offense at the in his Raider career.  Wade was named as one of the Maury County’s top-five male prep athletes by the Columbia Daily Herald’s Marion Wilhoite.

Wade went on to play at Mississippi State.

Fellow Mr. Football Bernard Oden (1993 2-A) also made the list. Oden racked up 6,269 yards from scrimmage for his career and would go on to start at quarterback in football and forward in basketball what is now the University of Memphis.

The Oden family made another mark on Raider football with Bernard’s nephew Tylin. He earned back-to-back Region 4-4A Player of the Year honors and accounted for over 4,000 yards in his career. He signed with Rutgers last spring.

The 2016 Raiders, who number 62 strong, going by rosters on MaxPreps.com with 28 upperclassmen, earned a 2-0, record thus far under new head coach Jay Emmons, a former assistant at Centennial High School in Franklin. He inherits a team that won just three games a year ago.

The Raiders will have some tough road games to overcome if they want to get back to the playoffs. After a hard 25-20 win at Summit two weeks ago, they will now have a three-game stretch beginning this week with games at Page, Dickson County and Tullahoma. In total, the Raiders will travel 324.8 miles this season with the Tullahoma trip covering the most ground right at 111 miles both ways.

Their last road contest comes at Lipscomb Academy Oct. 21.
