TDOT Awarded for Preservation

TDOT-Paving-Preservation

Construction is a constant in Williamson County and much of it is in cooperation with the State Department of Transportation. TDOT has been chosen to receive a national award for pavement preservation programs, the James B. Sorenson Excellence in Pavement Preservation Award.

Commissioner John Schroer accepted the accolade on Wednesday, August 29th. The pavement preservation program is a cost-saving initiative that is needed to meet the challenges of dwindling resources during the recession. “Through this program, TDOT has consistently kept our roadways in the top five in the nation while saving taxpayer dollars,” said Commissioner John Schroer. “It is my goal that we constantly work to improve this program and seek additional ways to maximize our effectiveness and efficiency.”

Techniques such as sealing cracks and changing hot mix asphalt specifications are used to lengthen the life of our roads. At the ceremony a demonstration of techniques displayed the various options available that are being used across the country.
