At the request of 21st District Attorney General Kim Helper, TBI Agents continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting in Fairview on Friday night.
Preliminary information indicates the incident occurred at approximately 8:30 PM at an apartment complex located at 1000 Highway 100 in Fairview, where a resident had alerted authorities to suicidal neighbor at the complex. Police officers, firefighters, and medics from Fairview arrived to the scene and the officers attempted to make contact with the man. After he would not open his door, authorities gained entry into the apartment and encountered an individual, identified as Chase Sullivan (DOB 9-22-81), who was approaching the officers with a knife. The officers gave several commands for Sullivan to drop the weapon, which Sullivan ignored. The situation escalated further and resulted in two officers firing their service weapons several times, striking Sullivan. Though first responders administered CPR immediately, Sullivan died on the scene.
TBI Agents continue to gather relevant interviews and evidence. Throughout the process, investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General’s office for her further review and consideration. As a reminder: The TBI acts solely as fact-finders in its cases. Any determination as to whether the officer’s actions were justified rests solely with the District Attorney General.
