It was another hot day at Pilgrimage Festival; attendees seem to be taking refuge anywhere they could find shade as the temperatures climbed back into the 90s.
As we made our way through the festival we saw Langhorne Slim who returned to Pilgrimage Festival for another year. Other performances we caught during the day -The Band of Heathens, Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives, The Revivalist, Fitz and the Tantrums. Amanda Shires performed in the afternoon bringing her husband, Jason Isbell to the stage. Â She even introduced him as “Jason Isbell Shires” jokingly.
Just before the sunset, we saw an amazing performance- at 78 years old Mavis Staples can bring the house down with her bigger than life voice. The Chicago native told the audience it was her first time to Franklin but hoped to be back again.
Closing out Pilgrimage Festival for the weekend was Eddie Vedder. He performed an acoustic set starting with “Share the Light.” Vedder also shared the stage with Pearl Jam drummer, Matt Cameron, and last minute addition Jack West who Vedder had met earlier at the festival and brought him out to perform.
