SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin

Over the last few days, you probably have seen #SXSW on Facebook and Twitter.  Now in its 22nd year, SXSW Interactive Festival returns to Austin from Friday, March 13 through Tuesday, March 17. An incubator of cutting-edge technologies and digital creativity, the 2015 event features five days of compelling presentations and panels from the brightest minds in emerging technology, scores of exciting networking events hosted by industry leaders and an unbeatable lineup of special programs showcasing the best new websites, video games and startup ideas the community has to offer.  Consecutively, there are also Film and Music presentations  with night time concerts from over 2,200 performers during  the five day period.

A recap of the  Interactive festival where keynote speaker Dr. Astro Teller, Google’s Captain of Moonshots,  spoke to the audience about failures.  Stating productive failure is what helps his team learn and better their projects.

Teller told the audience about many  a project that his team at Google[x] is working on, including a continued exploration of Google Glass; Project Loon, which through a network of balloons in the stratosphere aims to bring internet service to the four-billion people on the planet that aren’t currently connected; the self-driving car; Project Makani, which is working to accelerate the shift to renewable energy through wind; and Flux, previously Genie, aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of buildings, while simultaneously addressing rising demand for buildings driven by rapid urbanization.

“If you’re not failing at least some of the time, you could be learning faster,” he recalls Google Founder, Larry Page, saying. “I know he’s right. You don’t learn much from ‘we won today,’” Teller says.
