An ice cream shop, specializing in rolled ice cream called Sweet Charlie’s, holds its grand opening today, Saturday, March 30 starting at 11 a.
The shop is located at 430 Cool Springs Boulevard, Franklin.
This is the first Tennessee location for Sweet Charlie’s. The company describes themselves as “the nations largest rolled ice cream brand,” founded by Kyle Billig and brother Jacob who wanted to bring the Thai-inspired ice cream rolls to the U.S.
Named after their dog, Charlie, the two brothers are Philadelphia natives who had a dream to make people happy by providing great products and great service. What makes this place unique is they secured a patent for one of their items – a donut shaped like a hotdog making it the perfect shape to hold the rolled ice cream. Kyle Billings told us that Sweet Charlie’s has partnered with local Shipley Donuts to create the unique donut for the Cool Springs location.
In addition, they set out to provide responsibly driven dairy products. Each Sweet Charlie’s location has fresh dairy delivered each week by a farm in Pennsylvania. They also offer a dairy-free vegan option and a yogurt-based ice cream.
There are two sizes of ice cream offered – mini and regular for $5 and $7 respectively, which includes unlimited toppings.
In honor of the grand opening on Saturday, Sweet Charlie’s will be offering $3 off all day.
The Cool Springs location is a franchise owned by brothers Peter and Pola Aguib. Currently, there are 16 Sweet Charlie’s franchise locations and the company plans to have a total of 35 open by the end of 2019. Hours of operation will be Sunday – Thursday 11 a – 9 p, Saturday – Sunday 11 a – 10 p.
What is rolled ice cream and how is it made?
Rolled ice cream is made on an extremely cold steel surface that resembles a grill. After the milk is poured on the surface, it hardens and is shaped into rolls. Sweet Charlie’s uses a unique process that eliminates the need to add preservative and states their dairy is delivered fresh each week.
