For two years, Charun Chungaew has been working to open Sushi Thai in Spring Hill and now that goal is a reality. The new sushi/Thai restaurant should open sometime very soon, possibly as early as next week.
The restaurant is located at 5228 Main Street. Chungaew began the process of opening in 2015. He also owned and recently sold Basil in Cool Springs.
“I will be concentrating more on the new restaurant now,” he said.
Chungaew said he would have opened Sushi Thai sooner, but he had trouble staffing the restaurant in Spring Hill. The front of the house was not a problem, but he needed to find someone trained in preparing the specialty kind of food he will serve— of course, sushi and Thai dishes.
“We still need someone else in the kitchen who grew up or knows this food well,” he said. “And it has been hard to find that here or someone wanting to commute.”
Nevertheless, Chungaew said he plans to open as early as next week.
He needs yet a final health inspection, but has enough staff to open for now he said.
