Summit High Fish Team Catching On

Two of Summit High teams recently, April 25, 2015, competed in a B.A.S.S. sanctioned high school tournament on Center Hill Lake in Cookeville. The tournament had 32 teams from 7 different High Schools from the South East part of Middle Tennessee. Fishing against some of the best high School teams in the State. Two teams, Will Bennett/Thomas Sanders, both freshmen and Seth Abernethy (sophomore)/Preston Bond (freshman) had a pretty good day on the lake. Seth and Preston were able to grind out a 5 fish limit and managed to finish a very respectable 3rd place. This is the first 5 fish limit and first team to ever place in the prizes of any of our teams since we started Summit Fishing in 2014. Their weight was 11.47 lbs. on one of the toughest lakes in middle Tennessee as the fish are in transition to the spawning season.

Summit’s next big outing will be the Tennessee High School State fishing tournament that will launch out of Dayton Boat Dock on Chickamauga Lake June 6th. They have plans to take 7 teams this year and hope to have several top finishers. The only way these kids  get to compete like this is because of  sponsors and fundraising events. Second Nature, River-bend Nurseries, Animal Pros, Berkley and Lews Fishing help with equipment costs and travel expenses throughout the year. The other challenge is having enough Boat captains to help. These guys help make it happen by providing the boats and/or coaching while the anglers are practicing/competing.
