Summit finished off a remarkable comeback, scoring 30 unanswered points in the second half in a 30-21 win at Columbia Central on Friday.
Running back George Odimegwu ran 23 times for 191 yards and two touchdowns, part of the Spartans’ 369 rushing yards. Keaton Wade added 95 yards on seven carries for Summit (3-2).
Wade’s 11-yard touchdown run with 9:32 to play helped Summit to a 28-21 lead, its first of the night. The Spartans put it on ice when Jaylen Herrud tacked Columbia Central’s Darien Davis for a safety with 1:39 to play.
Trailing 21-0, Summit got on the board on Odimegwu’s 40-yard touchdown dash, followed by Carson Baker’s point-after, coming 2:20 into the second half.
Just 2:22 later, Danny Jackson’s 48-yard TD run, followed by a Baker point-after, got Summit within seven.
Odeimegwu added a second 40-yard scoring run with 1:50 left in the third, and Baker’s point-after tied it.
Columbia Central took a 14-0 lead with 8:02 left in the first half, thanks by a touchdown run and a touchdown pass from Davis.
Davis added an 8-yard touchdown run with 2:08 left before half, with Ernesto Diaz’s point-after putting Central up 21-0.
