Students will get an extra two days of summer break following a decision by the School Board to revise the 2015-16 school year calendar.

The last instructional day for students will now be a full day on Wednesday, May 18 instead of a half day on Friday, May 20. Teachers will have Thursday and Friday to finish their end-of-the-year processes and complete some additional professional development.

“This will give teachers time as professional colleagues to reflect on the school year and to finish all of the processes they are required to do before leaving for the summer,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. ”

Although there will be no school on May 19 and May 20, the WCS School Age Child Care (SACC) program will be open for families who need childcare on those days.

Looney requested the early end to the year from Tennessee Commissioner of Education Dr. Candice McQueen based on unused inclement weather days that are built into the school calendar.
