Summer Classes Offer Life Skills for Kids

What would your child do in an emergency? Would they know how to handle a fussy or injured child while babysitting? What is the polite way to introduce themselves or answer a phone? Kids will learn the answers to these questions and more in the Smart Kid series of summer classes at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.; the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.; and the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. “Smart Kids” teaches important life skills in a fun, memorable way to kids ages 5 to 16.

Polite Kids 101, Jr. (ages 5-8)-This basic manners class will help kids ages 5 to 8 navigate the world of polite living. Topics include showing kindness, introductions, table manners and being a good guest. The Polite Kids Jr. class will be offered from 9:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 6 or July 18 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.; June 13 or July 25 at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.; and May 31 or July 11 at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. Polite Kids 101, Sr. (ages 9-13)– The Polite Kids Sr. class teaches middle schoolers the basics of manners and etiquette, like kindness, respect and honor, introductions. Class will be offered from 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 7 or July 19 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.; June 14 or July 26 at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.; and June 1 or July 12 at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. Safe Kids 101 (ages 9-13)– This 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. class is perfect for teaching 4th-7th graders basic responsibilities for staying home alone. Topics include the on-line world, fire safety, and simple first aid. Class also covers the truth behind abuse, abduction and stranger danger. Safe Kids will be offered June 8 or July 20 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.; June 15 or July 27 at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.; and June 2 or July 13 at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. Babysitting 101 (ages 12-16)-Good babysitters need training, and the Smart Kids Babysitting 101 course covers everything from how to get your babysitting business started to CPR/choking in children. Babysitting 101 will be offered from 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 9 or July 21 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.; June 16 or July 28 at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.; and June 3, July 14 or August 6 at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd.
