School is almost back in session, and with the opening of a new academic year comes paperwork, fees, parking passes, new locker assignments, books and more things to get situated before the school year fires up. Here are orientation times for some middle and high schools across the county.
Fairview High School
8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Orientation will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end approximately at 11:30 a.m. Students will be given a tour of the school and will receive their locker assignments and schedules. They will be able to pay fees as well. Lifetouch will be on hand to take pictures.
Independence High School
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Eagle Quest is the official freshmen orientation which includes new students being led through a number of tasks by student ambassadors in order to make a smooth transition to high school. New students will play games, meet teachers, tour campus and learn about ways to get involved with clubs and organizations. There are also info days on July 30 and 31.
Parent orientation will be held on August 26 to allow parents to spend time meeting teachers and get familiar with their child’s schedule.
Heritage Middle School
3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Orientation will include the opportunity to meet homeroom teachers, pay fees, tour the school, join Parent Teacher Organization, and also pick up pre-ordered school supplies that may be purchased in packages online at http://www.1stdayschoolsupplies.com/list.php?school_zip=37179. The deadline to order supplies is July 30.
There is also an open house on August 25 at 6 p.m. in the HMS gym to give parents the opportunity to meet all teachers on their student’s schedule.
Woodland Middle School
August 5 and 6
Welcome Back Warrior Day for 6th graders will be held on August 5 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Seventh and Eighth graders will have times on August 6 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for seventh grade and 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. for eighth grade.
Grassland Middle School
Orientation and class schedule pick up for seventh and eighth graders from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. for sixth grade students. Learn about club activities and general information about the school as well as how to get involved with the Parent Teacher Organization.
