The Spring Hill Raiders are an underdog at home this Friday night, their homecoming, at 7 p.m. against the White House Heritage Patriots.
Spring Hill looks (1-2, 0-1 in AA District 6) looks to rebound this week after its 28-7 in-district loss to first-in-district Cascade last week. The loss put them fourth in the AA District 12, ahead of Giles County and Page.
The Raiders are ranked 269 in the state, out of 344; the Patriots are ranked 199. But since it is still early in the season, this is either team’s game.
Spring Hill is coming off of a loss to Cascade, which has the lead in AA District 6, and is undefeated for the season.
For WWH, this is only their third game of the season and they are 1-1 so far; it is also their first away game.
For Spring Hill, this is their Homecoming game.
This game, between two teams of roughly equal talent, should come down to emotion,
With the the combined pressure of WWH of playing their first away game, and that game being Spring Hill’s homecoming- the table seems to be set for the Raiders to get a big push from their crowd and the motivation of it being a homecoming.
This game should depend on how Spring Hill quarterback Tylin Oden, who threw three picks last week against one touchdown, responds to the emotional pressure, and how well coach Tom Turchetta is able to channel the obvious emotion of the game from a possible distraction into an advantage for the Raiders
Spring Hill is averaging 13.3 points per game this season and the Raiders have given up 22.7 points per game this season. But the two losses came against higher ranked teams (Summit and Cascade). And in the Raiders one win, against Mt. Pleasant, they put up 26. So they can score.
WWH is averaging 37.5 points in wins and has given up on average 35 points a game., but their schedule has been much easier.
So if those trends continue, the Raiders have a good chance at giving Spring Hill students and alumni a happy homecoming.
