Spring Hill Faces The Wildcats of Lawrence Co Friday

After another loss last week, Spring Hill (1-4, 0-2 in District 12) travels to play Lawrence County (3-2) in the second week of a three game road trip.

Next week, the Raiders have to play top-ranked CPA, so a win against Lawrence would be a way to stay out of a nose-dive, and to go back home after this road trip with a better record than 1-6.

The Raiders lost 38-14 last week in a District game to Marshall County.

Lawrence County is a rushing juggernaut. They average 253 yards per game on the ground.

They have almost as many rushing attempts as a team (216 carries for 1268 yards)  as they do passing yards (43 attempts for 293 yards), which is a very telling statistic. If you can stop the run, you can stop the Wildcats.

Spring Hill, however, has not had much luck stopping anything this season. They have given up 27.8 points per game on average.

More importantly, even if the Raiders did stop the Wildcats from running, they would have to score at least a little in order to get the win.

And despite quarterback Tylin Oden doing everything he can this year, leading the team in passing and rushing, the Raiders average only about 14 points per game.

Lawrence County, on the other hand, scores on average about 33 points per game.  But it does allow its opponents to score, giving up on average 24 points a game. Even in wins, opponents have had success scoring against Lawrence County.  There have been no real shut-outs- the Wildcats have given up at least 17 points in each game it has won.

So for Spring Hill to win this week, they have to do two things they have not been able to do very well very often this season: score, and stop its opponent from scoring.
