Along with EDC Chairman Jim Grimes, Williams, who accepted the position and resigned as alderman last week, will present the latest from their end and seek input from city leaders and planners.

The first agenda item is for discussion of the EDC Strategic Development Plan.

“We don’t currently have a functional EDC Strategic Plan,” Grimes said. “We will begin the process of creating it tomorrow. We have solicited input from the BOMA in the past. We will utilize that input, the Comprehensive Plan and our own thoughts and research to develop a document that will provide a guide post for our short range objectives and actions.”

The meeting may address an ongoing discussion among Spring Hill leaders concerning the role of retail in economic development.

Alderman Jonathan Duda has said that the EDC should focus on bringing corporate and office jobs to Spring Hill, and let retail come of its own accord.

The newly-formed position that Williams assumed — Victor Lay, city manager, wrote the job description at the direction of Mayor Bruce Hull and other leaders — takes a broader scope that includes retail recruitment.

This is reflected in the second agenda item: International Council of Shopping Centers. Williams, among her duties, will attend conventions with an eye toward attracting business to Spring Hill.
