Spring Hill planners will vote in a few weeks on plans for a new elementary school on the Maury County side of the city.
The plan is for a new Maury County Schools on property the district bought in late 2016, on 241.56 acres of land at 3451 Mahlon Moore Road.
The school district’s architects for the project, Wolaver, Carter & Heffington, will present details and answer questions at the voting Planning Commission meeting on October 9.
The land must first be annexed by the city, which is part of the resolution before the planning commission.
Maury County Schools bought the land for $2.75 million, and has plans to build an on-site elementary school within the next two years, and after that a new middle and high school.
“The goal that we set forth was to find a piece of property that could house an entire campus of a high school, middle school and elementary school,” Stan Breeden, assistant superintendent of operations, said.
The immediate need, with nearby-to-the-north Marvin Wright Elementary currently 27 students above its 600-student recommended capacity, is an elementary school.
Breeden said he hopes the new school could be completed within two years.
“We finally have a chance to potentially get ahead of the growth we are seeing in the northern part of the county,” David Moore, Zoning and Facilities Chairman and board member District 5, said.
