The City of Spring Hill looks forward to partnering with a local Boy Scout troop to soon build creek overlooks at Port Royal Park. It will complete a needed safety project for our City, and serve as an excellent Eagle Scout service project for the local troop.
Port Royal Park was constructed with a drainage system designed with the football fields in mind, which meant cutting down a number of trees along Rutherford Creek. That left bare spots throughout the tree line bordering the creek, which runs along the edge of the park.
Those open spaces allow residents to stand and look over the creek. However, it presents a safety concern as someone could easily fall into the water.
A project to construct a deck structure with railing, allowing residents to safely stand and look over into the creek, will be coordinated by the Scouts. The City will build the foundation and provide the heavy equipment needed to complete the project.
