Spring Hill Moves Forward with Comprehensive Plan Update

Now is the time for residents to help shape our city’s long-term vision, whether it’s through a city survey or future public meetings, as we update the Spring Hill Comprehensive Plan.

A citywide survey to get feedback for the update of our Comprehensive Plan already has nearly 1,700 responses, and it ends in four days, marking the start of the complex process of writing a first draft of the update.

The survey was created by the Spring Hill Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee – a diverse, 14-member, volunteer citizen committee – to find out how residents would like to see our city develop through 2025, and what goals are most important during this continuing growth period.

All of the data will be used to help update the Comprehensive Plan, adopted in 2011, which describes the community’s vision and directs how the City will develop over time, how it will function in the future, the quality of life opportunities that citizens will be able to experience, and the ways to accomplish that vision. The plan guides us through land use, transportation, parks, recreation facilities, housing, utilities, and more.

The process is well underway as the steering committee already has held two meetings, a public input meeting has been hosted, and the visioning survey has proven popular on social media. When the survey ends Feb. 28, City Planner Dara Sanders will review the results and use them to draft the update, estimated to go before the Planning Commission for consideration this spring.

“The Comprehensive Plan expresses the community’s expectations and goals for the future, and it sets policies and recommendations for our decision makers to consider,” Sanders said. “The reason for reaching out to the public is to develop a plan that is truly representative of our community, and the feedback that we receive will have a direct and substantial impact on the way in which the plan is updated.”
