Summer Story Time with Professor Graybeard:  10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 27. Story Times will just be on Wednesday this summer, with Special Guests at each. Meet Professor Greybeard and enjoy his Silly Science Show. Fun doings for very young future scientists. 3-7 year old’s will love this 30-40 min. program with a Mega Hoberman Sphere, exciting chemical reactions, bubbling potions, and of course, Explosions!

Beading Class for Teens: 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 28. Learn to bead an accessory. Geared for ages 13-18.
Beading Class for Kids:  1:00 p.m., Friday, May 29. At this Summer Reading Program, you can learn to bead a gauntlet to wear on your wrist. No sign up necessary. Supplies provided. Geared for grades K-5.

Ventriloquist Gene Cordova: Not Every Hero Wears a Cape: 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 2. Join Gene Cordova and his cast of merry makers as they enter the world of Super Heroes. What is a Super Hero?  Are there Super Heroes in your community? Neighborhood? Maybe even in your own home?  Sometimes being a Hero means just doing the right thing.  Gene will encourage kids and adults to read and at the same time will explore what it means to be a Hero.  You know there will be lots of laughter, magic and puppet shenanigans!

Summer Story Time with Belle: 10:00 a.m., June 3. Belle’s name mean beauty but our favorite thing about her is that she loves to read. She also dreams of adventure and believes there’s good in everyone, even the beast. Come enjoy a magical story time with her.

Adventure Science Center & a Virtual Visit with Astronaut Guy Gardner: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 4. The Adventure Science Center will blow you away sharing “Things You Encounter While Traveling in Space.” Guy Gardner, started as an Air Force fighter pilot and test pilot.  As a NASA Astronaut, he worked in many areas of space shuttle and space station development and support. His two flights in space were as pilot of Space Shuttle missions STS-27, launching a DoD payload, and STS-35, carrying the ASTRO-1 astronomy laboratory. We’ll see video of him in space while he narrates and chats with us virtually.

Guitar Hero Teen Tournament: a Teen Summer Reading Program: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 4. Play for your chance to win an amazing gift from Firey Music Company! Geared for ages 13-18.

The Spring Hill Orchestra presents an Instrument Petting Zoo: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 6. Local musician will introduce and play for children to explain the dynamics of each instrument in an orchestra.

Science of Super Heroes: 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 9. Mr. Bond, the Science Guy is bringing spectacular experiments for this 2015 Summer Reading Program. They are inspired by his favorite comic superheroes; we will make the webs of Spiderman, control the electric power of Ironman; sample the marvelous toys of Batman and more!

Summer Story Time: Special Guest Storyteller Dee Kimbrell: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 10. He-ros and She-ros Storytelling.  Dee brings stories to life with a little help from the audience.

Super Self-Defense Class: 1:00 -2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 11. Kids will learn how to defend themselves from evil forces.
Teen Self-Defense Class: 3:30 – 4:30 p.m., Thursday, June 11. Learn to kick those villians to the curb. Geared for ages 13-18.

Live Theater:  Hercules & Heroes – Greek Mythology for Kids: 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m., Monday June 15.
Come enjoy world-class live theater at the Library.  The Hampstead Stage Company from New Hampshire will perform an amazing interactive, education play you’ll never forget. Let Epictitus, the mask-maker, and Ovid, the poet, take you on a journey of the imagination, as you explore the ancient Greek heroes! Follow Greece’s greatest hero, Hercules, on his many adventures, as he battles mythological creatures and warriors. Through mask work, poetry, and swordplay, your children will discover the early stories of Greece. This play is designed to bring children closer to early civilizations by appreciating the similarities that we all share.

Summer Story Time: Special Guest … Ventriloquist Jill Thatcher: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 17.  Her puppets include a super hero rabbit, Papa, Mama, & Baby Alien who mix up fairy tales, and a snail whose story is remarkably like The Gingerbread Man.

Super Hero Party – Ticket Required: 1:00 -3:00 p.m., Thursday, June 18. Tickets Required (for kids, not adults). It’s a Reward Party! Kids, bring in the ticket you earned by meeting our first Challenge!  (If haven’t yet, hurry and pick up a Challenge Sheet at the Library or download it from our website.)  Come in costume if you like. Crafts, food, games, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (for real!), photo booth (so fun!), and more.

Teen Super Hero Party:  3:30 -6:00 p.m., Thursday, June 18. Food, movie, games, and fun. Be a hero and bring a friend or make a new friend when you get here. Geared for ages 13-18.

The Super in You Magic Show:  10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 23. For this Summer Reading Program magician Bruce Amato is bringing a fun, silly magic show to inspire you to bring out your Super Hero.

Summer Story Time with Mother Goose: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday June 24. She’s walking out of the pages of a story book to come and inspire your little ones to enjoy nursery rhymes and songs.

Super Dogs: Williamson Co. K9 Unit:  1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 25.  Meet the hardest working dogs in Williamson Co.  These German Shepard and Belgian Malinois breeds are dual purpose dogs, certified in narcotic detection and criminal apprehension. Recently a bloodhound was added to the unit. “Roxie” will be used to track lost or missing persons as well as criminal suspects. Members of the unit attend specialized training every month to maintain their skills in illegal narcotic detection, building searches, vehicle searches, and tracking. The dual purpose K9s are trained to United States Police Canine Association standards.

“Unmask”: a Teen/Parent Workshop: 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 25.  Learn how to communicate with one another so both teens and parents feel heard.  Learn how to take your “mask” off and be authentic. Craft at the end.  Geared for ages 13-18.

Tennessee Hero Davy Crockett: 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 30.  Come enjoy reenactor extraordinaire, Arthur Hunt, and hear “The Story of Davy Crockett as Told by Himself.” Davy ran away from home as a boy, fought in the Creek Indian War, was a Congressman, and was a bear hunter to beat out all bear hunters. In one season alone Crockett claims to have killed 58 bears in the Reelfoot Lake area.  Dr. Arthur Hunt is University of Tennessee at Martin communications professor and his impersonation of the fast talking frontiersman is a delight to witness.

Summer Story Time with Local Heroes: 10:00 a.m., July 1. Hear Local Heroes read their favorite children’s books.
Yoga for Super Heroes: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 2. Build up your core strength like a super hero with Yoga instructor Jessica Gray. Especially for kids.

Teen Yoga: 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., Thursday, July 2. After a hard day of crime-fighting, come in, unmask, and relax with yoga instructor Jessica Gray. Geared for ages 13-18.

Puppet Show: 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 7.  See a great puppet show put on by local teens.
Last Summer Story Time: Special Guests:  Bobo the Clown & Batman: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 8.  Bobo the Clown is back with her Fun and Interactive program including Magic, Balloon Animals and the Super fun Parachute game! But this year Bobo has a Twist! While Bobo is starting to make Balloon Animals for all the kids from out of the shadows there suddenly appears a “Caped Villain” who then steals Bobo’s bag of balloons. Not to worry, Batman appears to save the day!

Closing Teen Event: 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., Thursday, July 9. Prize winners will be announced and there will be great food and an outdoor movie. Geared for ages 13-18.

Live Animal Show: Amazing Aviators – Ticket Required: 2:00 & 3:30 p.m., Friday, July 10. Complete our 2nd Summer Reading Challenge and bring your ticket to one of these incredible shows as a Reward! (Parents do not need a ticket). You’re likely to meet up close a hawk, a yellow-naped green Amazon parrot, a Eurasian eagle owl named “Eliott,” a straw-colored fruit bat, a flying squirrel, and parachute or flying geckos! They are a global variety of avian, mammal and reptiles all with the amazing ability to fly or glide throughout their habitat. By exploring these unique adaptations, we will discuss how the natural world has inspired our own developments in modern engineering and design technology!
