Art Displayed for a Cause: General Federal of Women’s Club (GFWC) of Spring Station will have art on display on the wall behind the circulation desk to raise awareness for the Center of Hope Domestic Violence Shelter in Columbia, TN throughout September. Local artists have contributed pieces that will either be placed in shelter homes or will be available for auction at the October 9 Amethyst Affair, open to all at the UAW Hall.

Artist of the Month: Marion Ward has had a photography studio since 1952 and is a highly respected pioneer in the art of low-key color photography and his portraits are exceptional. He is also an accomplished portrait artist working in the fine tradition of oils. His freehand paintings take countless hours and many will be on display throughout September at the Spring Hill Library.

Story Time: 10:00 a.m., Monday – Thursday. Stories, songs, and an art project.

Baby Time: 9:15 a.m., Tuesdays & Fridays. A lapsit program for babies up to 24 months and their caregivers. We will sing, clap, and bounce to nursery rhymes and songs for 20 minutes. No sign up necessary.

Reverse Diabetes Naturally: 4:30 p.m. & 5:30 p.m., Thursday, September 3. Come and hear about the latest evidence-based research on how to reverse diabetes naturally. You will learn how to normalize blood sugar, increase energy, relieve joint pain, and how to get back to living a happier and healthier life. Presented by Crystal Chester, RD, LDN

Mind-Body Wellness Workshop: 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 3. Eliminate stress with breathing techniques and meditation. Presented by Rajesh Jethwani of The Art of Living (www.ArtOfLiving.org) you’ll learn how you can infuse your body with energy, detoxify through the breath, make your mind calm, control negative emotions, increase focus and concentration and create a sense of well-being.

Music for Babies & Toddlers: Suzuki Early Childhood Education Introductory Class: 9:15 a.m., Friday, September 4. For newborns to age 3. A free class to experience music with your young child in an interactive, unique way.

Saturday LEGO Club: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5. Monthly club for LEGO lovers. We will read a story for inspiration and then it’s creation time! Everyone welcome. Geared toward school-aged children. LEGO provided. Creations will be put on display.

Chicks with Sticks: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 5 & 19. Knitting club open to all.

Library Closed Labor Day: Monday, September 7; the Spring Hill Library will be closed.

Teen Time Game Night: 3:30 – 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10. Play X-Box One video games and board games with us. Snacks provided.

Key Life Decisions: Are you Prepared? 9:30, Saturday, September 12. Are you prepared for what life throws at you? You have an opportunity to hear from a panel four professionals about being prepared. Free breakfast served. To reserve space for yourself and a guest, please call 615-302-4598 no later than Wednesday, September 9, 2015.

Read to Kittens! Sit In an Outside Mobile Reading Area with Cage-Free Kittens: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, September 12. Eva’s Eden is a cage-free cat shelter and they’re setting up a mobile adoption unit outside the Spring Hill Library for most of the day. Kids are invited to come in and read to the kittens! Adoption is welcomed but not required. Just bring in some TLC.

I Cre8 Art Class: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 12 (monthly on the 2nd Saturday). This class will be outside. Open to all ages; no sign up necessary. Art teacher Marcela Espejo will inspire you to explore art in fun ways. Project: Zentangle Ink Art. Quilt & Sewing Club: 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Saturday, September 12. How to be a “Foster Grandparent” in Local Schools Info Meeting: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 15. If you are 55 or older, come and learn how you can be a help to local Maury Co. students who need a little extra help in the classroom. Foster grandparents will receive mileage reimbursement when serving, a free lunch, and a free annual physical. Depending on your income, a tax-free stipend will apply. Be a volunteer and make a difference to a young student.

Free Help with TennCare, CoverKids or HealthCare.gov : 1:30 – 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 15. Certified Application Counselors from Mercy Community Healthcare and Pathways to Health can help you navigate TennCare, CoverKids or HealthCare.gov. This is a FREE service. Counselors get paid through grants and are not associated with any health insurance company.

Favorite Reads Book Club: 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 18. Looking for a book club to join? Come and join in.

Homeschool LEGO Club: 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 18. Come & build! LEGO provided. Especially for homeschoolers.

Teen Lock-In Woodstock Bookstock!: 8:00 -11:00 pm, Friday, September 18. Music, Food, Games, Crafts, Fun! Bring your own white shirt for tie dye. For ages 13 – 18.

Homework Help Workshop: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 19. Is homework a stressful time at your house? Come and pick up tools that will make school work easier for your child … and you! You will learn note-taking and reading strategies for effective study and comprehension. Discover the THIEVES method, the 5-Word-Limit method, stress reduction techniques. Presented by Reading Specialist Linnett Vance, a local educator whose academic life was dramatically changed by learning these techniques.

Talk Like a Pirate Day with Captain Tom Mason & the Blue Buccaneers: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19. Captain Tom Mason and his fiddling friends will perform swashbuckling songs inspired by the golden age of pirates. Kids love to join in, singing and dancing along. These fun-loving pirates will take you back three hundred years with a joyous smorgasbord of rhythms plundered far and wide, sing-along shanties of their own making, and a few favorites soaked in their own concoction of seawater and grog all served up with a generous helping of fun, all while teaching kids the history of life on the high seas. They will have the crew talking like pirates in no time!

Spring Hill Art Walk: 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19. A free family event featuring local artwork at participating businesses and churches, music from Pickin’ in the Park & Spring Hill HarMoniX, children’s art activities, including art fun provided by our own I Cre8 Art instructor Marcela Espejo, food trucks & refreshments, tours of Ferguson Hall ($5 donation) & much more!

Teen Book Club: 3:30 – 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24: : Join us as for our monthly book club meeting as we snack, make bookmarks, and discuss Neil Gaiman’s award-winning book, The Graveyard Book.

Master Artist Workshop: Portrait Demo & Tips on Positioning People for Photos: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26. September’s Artist of the Month Marion Ward will explain the process he goes through to paint a face for one of his masterpieces. He will also share the secrets of arranging people to create stunning group photos. Marion’s fine portraitures and museum quality photographs are on display in the Spring Hill Library for the month of September.
