1.  Make a plan, and select a space.  It’s easy to get overwhelmed by looking at the entire house, so if your pantry is what bothers you most, start there.  Think ahead and pick the job that you will be most motivated to complete.

2.  Calendar a date for your organizing project.  Choose the amount of time you think you need, and then double it in case you run into more “stuff” than you expected.

3.  Recognize that you will need to make a mess…at first.  Make space to spread all of the items in question out so you can see what you’re dealing with.

4.  Ask questions to make decisions:  When did you last use the item?  Is it valuable?  Is it still in good shape?  Do you love it?  Do you really have room for it?

5.  Sort your items into categories:  Keep (items stays in that space), Toss (recycle or shred), Donate (for someone else to use), or Relocate (item goes somewhere else).
