Sixth Grade Students Build Rain Garden at Pinkerton Park

Rain Garden Pinkerton Park

Last Saturday, sixth grade science students from Freedom Intermediate School helped build a model rain garden at Pinkerton Park as part of their “Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge.”

The challenge encourages students to improve the community around them by developing sustainable plans. This group of students wanted to improve the water quality of the Harpeth River. Through their research, they discovered that rain gardens can control storm water run-off and they pursued this project by consulting with the City of Franklin Stormwater division and the Parks Department.

These Honors students hope the garden will raise awareness of the storm water run-off problem, while providing a simple green solution to one form of river pollution.
