Before Shuffs Music & Piano Showroom opened in downtown Franklin, there was no music store in Franklin.

Hard to believe, considering how central music and the music industry has become to the area, but when Ron Shuff, encouraged by his late wife Alice, decided to open a store totally committed to music, it was the first of its kind.

Established in 1978, Shuff’s Music & Piano Showroom is a full-line music store specializing in new and used pianos, guitars, band instrument sales and rentals, and music lessons. Shuff’s Music Sales & Studios opened at 118 Third Avenue North and still operates there today. But over the years Shuff has expanded. It now utilizes three buildings in downtown Franklin.

Two buildings are located at 127 Second Avenue North. The front building holds Shuff’s iconic Piano Showroom, which is stocked with new and used pianos. In the back of the building is a waiting area for parents and many rooms for music lessons. This building focuses on piano lessons and vocal lessons. And behind the Piano Showroom is the Used Piano Warehouse.

The store has many brands of acoustic and digital pianos to fit any budget. The brands include Yamaha, Steinway, Kawai, Kohler & Campbell, Story & Clark, and many more. They also offer Piano Rentals.

One street over is the original Music Store. Shuff’s Music is a full-line music store that stocks a wide variety of instruments, from band to acoustic and electric guitars, ukuleles, banjos, other musical instruments, drums, sheet music, musical accessories. They also provide rentals for band instrumentsorchestra instruments, and other musical instruments.

The top floors are dedicated to music lessons and group music classes. They offer music lessons for almost every instrument, click here for more information on music lessons.

Downstairs is the Blue Room, which is used for music recitals. The music teachers often use the stage for concerts for their students. Shuff’s also participates in the downtown Franklin Art Scene and hosts a local artist the first Friday of every month from 6 to 9 p.m.

As could be guessed, Shuff has centered his whole life around music. He earned a Bachelors degree at the University of Alabama, a Masters of Music degree at Georgia State University, and worked towards a Ph.D in Music at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Before opening the store, he served as the  Musical Director at First United Methodist Church and Director of Fine Arts and Music at Brentwood Academy.  He has also spent the last 20 years as the band leader for The Ron Shuff Music Revue.
