On Thursday, Aug 13, officers with the Spring Hill Police Department responded to a traffic accident with injuries on Interstate 65 South at about 1:36 p.m.

Witnesses told officers upon arrival that a white crossover type vehicle – driven by a white male with dark hair and large glasses, approximately age 50 to 60 – immediately stopped in the left lane of I-65 South to turn into an emergency median turnaround. This action by the driver caused the vehicles behind him to suddenly slam on their brakes, giving them no space to maneuver out of the path of vehicles behind them. Three total vehicles were involved in the accident, not including the vehicle that caused the accident. The driver of that vehicle fled the scene.

During these events, the white vehicle was struck by a second vehicle, which in turn was struck by a third vehicle, a tractor-trailer truck. This sequence of events caused the second vehicle to become sideways, again being struck by the tractor-trailer truck in the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Upon officers’ arrival, all involved parties were out of their vehicles, walking around, speaking with one another. The driver of the second vehicle, that was hit twice, spoke with officers and complained that his back was hurting. He was transported to Williamson Medical Center ER, then to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died from the extent of injuries sustained in the accident.

The Spring Hill Police are asking for assistance in the investigation of this traffic accident. Anyone who may have information pertaining to the identification of the fleeing driver person driving the white crossover type vehicle is asked to contact the Spring Hill Police Department at (931) 486-2252.
