Shakespeare Festival Coming to Williamson County

Shakespeare in the Park

The Nashville Shakespeare Festival has announced its first ever performance of Shakespeare in the Park in Williamson County, to run Sept. 29 through Oct. 2 at Academy Park, formerly the campus of Battle Ground Academy.

“The Nashville Shakespeare Festival is thrilled to bring Shakespeare in the Park to Williamson County,” said Tony McAlister, chair of the board of directors for Nashville Shakespeare Festival. “This has been in the works for some time and we are proud for it to come to fruition with the help of Mayor Anderson, Williamson County Parks, dedicated sponsors and the local community.”

The inaugural performance at Academy Park will be a uniquely Nashville take on Shakespeare’s zaniest play, The Comedy of Errors. The show is set in the 1960s and features original music by David Olney, Lari White, Stan Lawrence and Jack Kingsley. This family-friendly performance is directed by Nashville Shakespeare Festival Executive Director Denice Hicks and is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The Comedy of Errors will be performed Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 1, 2.

“We are excited to partner with The Nashville Shakespeare Festival to bring another element of the arts to our community,” said Williamson County Mayor, Rogers Anderson. “As we open Academy Park later this year, this outdoor live theater event will be a neighbor to the seniors enrichment center and in close walking distance to neighborhoods to provide educational entertainment for our citizens.”

The Nashville Shakespeare Festival is in its 29th season of Shakespeare in the Park, which is performed annually at Centennial Park band shell. The festival has entertained more than 280,000 guests since 1988.

Guests will be able to enjoy this performance at Academy Park for a limited time this fall, and the NSF hopes to return with a new show for a full season of Shakespeare in the Park in 2017.

General admission to Williamson County Shakespeare in the Park is open to the public, with a $10 per person donation suggested. The Royal Package is available for those seeking the ultimate VIP experience. This package is the festival’s signature fundraiser and includes reserved parking, prime seating, a gourmet boxed picnic dinner and personal welcome from the Nashville Shakespeare Festival staff. Pre-show entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m. with the featured performance at 7:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics. Food trucks and bleacher seating will also be available.

Williamson County’s Shakespeare in the Park is supported in part by Jackson National Life, Frothy Monkey Franklin, Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant, Franklin Synergy Bank, The Jones Company and the generosity of individual donors. The Nashville Shakespeare Festival is made possible by Metro Nashville Arts Commission and The Tennessee Arts Commission.
