It is easy to forget how much we have to be thankful for.
At the First Missionary Baptist Church, on the corner of Natchez Street and 9th Avenue right in the heart of downtown Franklin, a group of volunteers spent their Thanksgiving morning cooking up and serving a meal for the community.
Reviving a long-time tradition started years ago by Reverend R.L. Jensen, Sandra Wray, volunteer and retiree, organized the 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. effort, which cooked for the hungry and took to the homebound plates of turkey, ham, filling, fixings and dessert.
“This year we went back to reaching out and just feeding those who need it, and you’d be surprised the number of people who have called,” Wray said. “This is our way to give blessing, because you don’t think of it, most of us have food, but there are some people on this day and others who don’t.”
Wray wanted to be sure to give thanks to Let It Shine gymnastics, which donated more than could be asked in both money and time, was mentioned here, in the spirit of Thanksgiving.
