Senior & Therapeutic Programs at Wm. Co. Recreation

The Seniors and Therapeutics Division at the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department (WCPRD) has a wide variety of ongoing programs, outings and classes at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.; and the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.

For seniors, WCPR encourages fitness, fellowship and learning with exercise classes, aquamotion, bowling, Wii games, monthly outings and potlucks. Seniors can also enjoy volunteering at events, health seminars and senior safe-driving classes. All seniors (55+) can use any facility for a $1 general admission fee, which includes use of pools, walking tracks and wellness centers. A convenient annual facility pass is $100 for new users and $75 for renewing seniors (in-county rates).

The Therapeutic Recreation program is comprised of Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS) who assist people with disabilities in developing skills, knowledge and behavior for daily living and community involvement. Participants (age 13 through young adults) enjoy monthly classes like Fitness Fun, bowling, arts and crafts, games and a  potluck as well as a Fall hayride, Christmas party and annual dance. A Super Saturday Respite program is also offered from September through April for ages 6 to 23.  In the summer months, the Therapeutic Recreation program operates Camp Will.

Full descriptions of all classes and schedules for the seniors and therapeutics programs at each facility are available in a new digital department newsletter at www.wcparksandrec.com.  For more information, contact Traci Hamby at (615) 790-5719, ext. 2021.
