See How This Home Decor Was Inspired by Oscar Nominated Movies

Inspiration for home decor can be found anywhere and even in an Oscar-nominated movie. McCalls Carpet One tells us how our home decor can be inspired by three different movies- “Jackie,”  “Passengers,” and “Nocturnal Animals.”

JACKIE

In the effort to authentically portray the Kennedy White House for the movie “Jackie,” set production designer Jean Rabasse faithfully referred to a variety of documents including design diaries, White House photograph archives and architectural and design blueprints. Potentially the most renowned and acclaimed Kennedy interior space at the White House was First Lady Jaqueline Kennedy’s elegant and timeless blue bedroom and dressing area. Rabasse meticulously recreated that space utilizing antiques and custom designed textiles to match the ones installed by Jackie’s designer, Stephane Boudin. To bring this look home we selected a few key pieces that reflect Jackie’s luxurious, yet very comfortable elegance.

PASSENGERS

Minimalistic opulence was the driving theme for this space designed for Sony Picture’s science fiction romance “Passengers” by designer Guy Hendrix Dyas. Dyas created a warm, inviting, futuristic environment using soft lines, sensuous curves and warm-toned neutrals and metal finishes that can easily be translated for home using elements as shown on the décor board below.

NOCTURNAL ANIMALS

Tom Ford’s “Nocturnal Animals” benefited from the stylistic hand of production designer Shane Valentino (he also designed the set for Ford’s movie “A Single Man”). The production team was limited by budget, so rather than build expensive, elaborate sets they scouted for homes and designed the interiors that would then fit the narrative for the “Nocturnal Animals” story. The one shown below belongs to real estate mogul Kurt Rappaport and the interior is tastefully decorated to evoke the curated style of art gallery owner Susan Morrow (played by Amy Adams). This look relies heavily on the mid-century and modern aesthetic and can be achieved using vintage furniture and décor designed by iconic furniture designers such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe alongside contemporary pieces like the black “Flask” table lamp from Blu Dot.
