SEC: Vols upset bid falls short

Although some say the win over USC last night locked them in for a spot in next weeks NCAA Tournament, they may still be sweating out Selection Sunday until they hear their name called.

A loss to the number one team in the country can’t hurt too bad especially when they Vols played as well as they did.

A Jordan McCrae jumper with 1:08 to play in the first half gave Tennessee the biggest lead any team would see all day at ten.

McCrae had another big basket with just under 3 minutes to play, when he buried a three to tie the game at 49 a piece.

The biggest play of the game came when, McCrae turned it over which led to a run out for Casey Prather who was fouled by Antonio Barton. Barton was issued a flagrant one for not making a play on the ball.

That gave Florida two free throws and the ball back.

The Gators advance to tomorrow’s Championship game and will most certainly be rewarded a one seed in the NCAA Tournament.

As for Tennessee, their resume is as follows; A record of 20-11 an RPI of 30 and an SOS of 41.

So what do you think? Is Tennessee a lock for a spot in the Big Dance? If so, what seed?

Second SEC Semi-Final Game: Kentucky vs Georgia

In what seemed like a home game for Kentucky, even though the game was played in Georgia, the Wildcats kept their foot on the gas in the second half in a 72-58 route of the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Cats exploded out of the gate and led 12-2 on a three from James Young.

But the Bulldogs were not backing down and trimmed the lead to four at halftime.

The second half, the younger Wildcats looked more poised than they had all season and pulled away with help of some sharp shooting from Aaron Harrison. The shooting guard poured in 22 points, 12 of which came from behind the three point line.

So is it really a “tweak” of the offense or just Kentucky playing more loose? Whatever reason may be, the Cats are starting to play up to their potential and are becoming the kind of opponent teams don’t want to see next week and maybe beyond.

Kentucky will meet Florida tomorrow at noon for the SEC Championship Game.
