SEC: The Madness Has Begun…Sort of

By Steve Peake

Game One: Missouri vs Texas A&M

In a game where, unfortunately, someone had to win, Earnest Ross came ready to play. He was one of the few who did.

In this difficult to watch match-up, the Tigers were  in the drivers seat with a nine point lead with eight and a half remaining.

Texas A&M cut it to three at 62-59 when Fabyon Harris threw in a running floater. A few minutes later the Aggies took their first lead since early in the first half on a pair of free throws by Harris.

The lead would go back and forth a couple times before Alex Caruso put Texas A&M up by four with a huge three from the right wing.

Jabari Brown tied the game on two free throws with 47 seconds left and fouled out Antwan Space in the process.

Both teams would miss out on an opportunity to win the game in regulation.

In overtime Alex Caruso made a game tying lay-up off of a Mizzou turnover, to send the game into a second overtime.

With an exhausting amount of free throws in the second OT, Missouri pulled away to win 91-83.

Game Two: South Carolina vs Arkansas

The Gamecocks and Razorbacks continued the madness… and the free throws.

Although USC didn’t make a basket for nearly the final four minutes, they made seven free throws to upset Arkansas.

The 13 seeded Gamecocks will take on Tennessee tomorrow in the quarterfinals.

Game Three: Alabama Vs LSU

Anthony Grant’s Crimson Tide are headed home after one game thanks to the hot shooting of LSU.

The Tigers made a 11 of 22 three point attempts and looked poised to make a run in this tournament.

We’ll see how well they handle Kentucky’s “tweak” tomorrow when the two teams meet at 6 PM CT.

Game Four: Mississippi State vs Ole Miss

The game was much closer than the 78-66 final score. Mississippi State jumped out to a 10-0 lead and had a nine point advantage at halftime.

Led by their senior, the Rebels crept back into the game. Love him or hate him, Marhsall Henderson can flat out shoot the basketball.

The Hurst, Texas native can get hot at any moment and he hit some big time threes late in the second half. Sure it may have taken him 19 tries but he finished with 7 three pointers.

Around the five minute mark, Henderson hit two threes back-to-back to push a five point Rebel lead to eleven, ultimately ruining what could have been a Cinderalla-like run for Mississippi State.

Ole Miss will play Georgia tomorrow in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament.
