Opening its doors in October, the McKay’s Mill neighborhood will have a new option for hardware and appliances in the Sears Hometown store.
Sears Hometown will move into the former Walgreens along Liberty Pike at the roundabout. Local store owner William Talbot said he thought the location would be great for those living in the nearby neighborhoods.
“I think it’s great for McKay’s Mill,” he said. “Especially since that building has been empty for a couple of years, I want to keep it attractive and improve it. And while I think it’s great for McKay’s Mill, I also need the business from the rest of Franklin. They will frequent the store more, but I will get more traffic because I am in McKay’s Mill.”
Sears Hometown will offer a selection of the top appliance brands such as Kenmore, Maytag, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Samsung, Frigidaire, LG and GE. It will also provide a large assortment of lawn and garden equipment, Craftsman tools, fitness equipment, mattresses and even more through in-store computer kiosks.
The Franklin location is one of 19 Sears Hometown stores in Tennessee. A large box retail Sears was once in the CoolSprings Galleria, but has since left.
“I am hoping that working with this store and Sears that they can rebuild the brand,” Talbot said. “I really believe there is a strong loyal following to Sears in the brands that I am selling. I think it’s possible to build that loyalty with the younger generation. I think that’s possible. I am still a big believer in those products and the need for them in the community.”
Sears Hometown Store associates can order customers any product from the entire merchandise selection offered by Sears, including apparel, footwear, jewelry and much more. Customers also have the option to order products online and pick them up in the store without a shipping charge. The Franklin store also will offer Sears Nationwide Service, Parts and Installation.
Talbot plans to open the location Oct. 20 with a grand opening planned for the spring.
