Search Continues for Columbia Man Wanted for Attempted Murder of Police Officer

The Columbia Police Department continues the search for Jamal Gardner. Gardner has active warrants for the attempted 1st degree murder of a police officer, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault and other charges stemming from his actions on February 2nd.

On February 2, Gardner assaulted his girlfriend during an argument. He left her home and, later, an officer with the Columbia Police Department made contact with Gardner during a traffic stop in the driveway of 407 W 13th Street. As the officer exited his vehicle Gardner shot multiple rounds from a rifle at the officer. Gardner retreated into the residence and fired several more shots from multiple firearms over a length of time at officers who were responding to assist. After shooting at officers it is believed that Gardner was able to flee on foot prior to officers being able to completely surround the location. There is no direct information related to Gardner’s current location and or any vehicles he may have access too.

Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies are actively coordinating efforts to locate and apprehend Gardner. Law enforcement is urging the public to be vigilant and to immediately call 911 with any information related to Gardner’s whereabouts.

Do not approach Gardner as he is armed and dangerous.
